2011 Jr. League Champs - Rock Hounds                            2011 Sr League Champs - Red Sox

The 2012 EWG Girls Softball season is ready to go - practices start the week of April 2 and games begin a few weeks later.

The online registration worked out pretty well, but could still be improved down the road.

Our overall registrations are pretty close to the 2011 season, but the number of instructional and junior league players are down significantly - so much so that we had to eliminate one of the junior league teams.

This is the first year we are doing a cooperative division with surrounding towns - our high school division team will be playing against teams from Cranston, Chariho and Coventry. Coach Mike Otrando did a great job of recruiting and putting a team together.

Field clean up day is scheduled for Saturday, April 7th at 9a - we need as many parents as possible on hand to help get the facilities prepared - Sonny Andrews is in the process of revamping the stands on "A" field and they will need to be painted, along with the deck area at the front of the building. We will be putting a permanent pitching machine at our batting cage (which blew over this winter), and we have some brand new metal stands that need to be assembled for field "C". We will also need volunteers to rake and pick up branches and limbs around the complex.

The roof of the clubhouse was in pretty bad shape, so we decided to have it replaced. The work was completed last week and it looks fantastic.

We are often looking for volunteers to help out with a number of duties throughout the season. The most important of which is operating the concession stand. We use the money generated from concession to pay our umpires and continue to make field improvements. Concession duty is mandatory for parents at least one time per season. We would also appreciate help in concession and field maintenance during tournaments hosted at our fields. The revenue generated from the tournaments keeps the league afloat and helps keep costs down each year. Please consider helping out during a tournament in 2012.

We will once again be holding a raffle to raise funds for the league. Each family will be expected to sell 10 raffle tickets and turn the money in to your coach. Last year, we raised enough money to make a number of improvements around the complex. There are numerous projects that need to be completed this year.

Opening day is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 9a - there will be player intros, team photos and games played.
